Country Weathervanes CUPOLA Installation and Information
Everything you need to know before and after buying one of our beautiful Cupolas.

Selecting The Right Size Cupola

Before deciding which style cupola you're interested in, you should figure out what size cupola will fit your roof.  Cupolas and Weathervanes make distinguished additions to homes or any other outdoor structure.  Our cupolas are used as a decorative accent to your home - you don't have to cut any holes in the roof.  A cupola can easily be added to your home with or without a weathervane and all cupolas come ready to install a weathervane.

"Size" of our cupolas refers to the measurement across the bottom of the cupola's roof.

How to choose the right size cupola:

A good rule of thumb for selecting the right size cupola is to use 1.5" of cupola for every foot of unbroken roofline - the key is the unbroken roofline measurement.

For example:  20 feet of unbroken roof line, times 1.5”, equals a minimum cupola size of 30" square.    Our experience tells us this formula provides a balance between the cupola and the roof.   If the cupola is too small it will look like a birdhouse.   In fact, we recommend going one size larger if there is significant height to the structure, or adjoining building.

Another example:  if you have 15 feet of unbroken roof line, take 15 x 1.5" =  cupola should be 22" square minimum.

All of our cupolas are “weathervane ready.”  They do not require a roof mount or any additional hardware.   All cupolas are made to fit up to a normal 10/12 "pitch" (pitch is a term for the steepness of the roof).   If you have a steeper roof than 10/12", an extended base can be built, or purchased at Country Weathervanes.  To find out what the pitch of your roof is, see below.

Our cupolas are 100% handcrafted in the old world tradition of Amish craftsmen, using only the highest quality materials.  We consider our cupolas to be the finest you can buy.

Examples of cupolas sizes for an unbroken roof line:

If a cupola larger than 60" is needed, consider using two cupolas on the roof line.  When using more than one cupola, a good rule of thumb is to use 1" of cupola for every foot of unbroken roof line.  For example, for 24 feet of unbroken roof line, the minimum size for each cupola would be 24" square.
